HIGHLIGHTS
DAY 1 : ARRIVAL AT PARO AIRPORT – TRANSFER TO THIMPHU On arrival at Paro Airport, we meet our Bhutan tour guide and get transferred to Thimphu. From the airport, you'll find a comfortable hotel packed with amenities like wireless internet, swimming pool and business center. We begin our Thimphu sightseeing by visiting Kuensel Phodrang (Buddha Statue), a privately owned 3rd-generation family company that creates beautiful and unique Buddha statues, King's (National) Memorial Chorten - The chorten was built in 1974, serving as a place for reflection and prayer for all onlookers who view it. Dzong Gato Lhari is the summer residence of the Je Khenpo (Chief Abbot of Bhutan). Tashichho Dzong features seven fortifications that were put up in 1642 with the help of Tibetan architect Gelek Namka. Later on in your tour, you'll visit Folk Heritage Museum to take home some traditional Bhutanese handicrafts!DAY 2 : THIMPHU CITY TOUR After breakfast, proceed to sightsee in Thimphu! Experience a day of exploring the Buddhist culture from Thimphu by visiting the Indigenous hospital where traditional practices for healing are still practiced, Art & craft School, National Library, and both old and new temples. After lunch enjoy some sumptuous food. In the afternoon go to Changangkhang monastery, Motithang zoo to see the rare "Takin" national animal of Bhutan or visit other sites such as the Memorial Chorten built in respect of late king Jigme Dorji Wangchuck. Have dinner at your leisure. Spend your evening at your hotel. Overnight in Thimphu.
DAY 3 : Early morning transfer to Wangdue/Punakha via Dachu La Pass After spending some time in the morning at Breakfast, check out from Wangdue Hotel and take a short stop for tea before proceeding to Dochula pass (3100 meters) and driving on to Punakha, where you can get views of the Himalayan ranges. In Wangdue, head over to Mehsina village and visit Chime Lhakhang – the temple of fertility built by Lama Drukpa Kinley in the 15th century. You should also be sure to visit Chendebji Chorten and Wangdue Phodrang Dzong before continuing into Puna Kea, where you'll have lunch on the way. Later that afternoon, go explore Punakha Dzong – a beautiful dzong that is unique both for its beauty and being built by Jigme Pengye Dorje during his first reign as ruler of Bhutan. For overnight guests in Punakha, we recommend our luxurious hotels nearby.
DAY 4 : PUNAKHA TO GANGTEY You can start the day off by taking a ride to Gangtey, Bhutan, one of Bhutan's most scenic spots. Gangtey is a cafe located at 3600m and houses some of the rarest animals in the world. Enjoy lunch while you're there. Afterwards, return to Punakha where you'll stay overnight.
DAY 5 : TRANSFER TO PARO On your way out of Paro you'll want to snap a photo of the Lotus Lakes Hotel with the dzongs in the background. And I suggest grabbing an overnighter at the Drukgyal Guest House where you can explore Paro in more depth and stay in some traditional style Bhutanese home-buildings while they continue being restored. Then in the evening head back to Thimphu (from where most of our guests arrange their own onward travel logistics) or rent a private car and see some more places that are well off any bus or taxi route from Thimphu. You'll have time for a romantic dinner, wine, ropa vieja at La Mansione and find another little spot for coffee before exploring our beautiful countryside for a bit.
DAY 6 : Paro City Tour As you make your way through Paro, keep an eye out for these sites that are worth visiting.
DAY 7 : TRANSFER TO PARO AIRPORT Hotel check out at breakfast gives you access to the airport. From there, your onward- journey is all yours!

GOOD TO KNOW
A COUPLE OF RULES
Illegal drugs will not be tolerated on any trips. Possessing or using drugs not only contravenes the laws of the land but also puts the rest of the group at risk.
Smoking marijuana and opium is a part of local culture in some parts of the world but is not acceptable for our travellers.
Our philosophy of travel is one of respect towards everyone we encounter and in particular the local people who make the world the special place it is.
The exploitation of people in the sex trade is completely contrary to this philosophy.
TRAVEL INSURANCE
We advise to take out Travel Insurance to cover for any unforeseen circumstances. Hummingbird recommends World Nomads' travel insurance.
SAFETY AND SECURITY
Many national governments provide a regularly updated advice service on safety issues involved with international travel.
We recommend that you check your government's advice for their latest travel information before departure.
We strongly recommend the use of a neck wallet or money belt while travelling, for the safe keeping of your passport,
air tickets, travellers' cheques, cash and other valuable items.
Leave your valuable jewelery at home - you won't need it while travelling.
Many of the hotels we use have safety deposit boxes, which is the most secure way of storing your valuables.
We make every reasonable effort to ensure the fun and adventurous element of any water based activities (in countries with varying degrees of operating standards), have a balanced approach to safety.
HEALTH
Please note: We do not have a constant power source onboard, and cannot facilitate the use of Sleep Apnea/CPAP machines. Bringing a suitable battery pack is required.
Please refer to the Physical and Culture Shock ratings for trip specific information.
TIPPING
It is customary in Asia to tip service providers such as waiters, at approximately 10%, depending on the service. Tipping is expected - though not compulsory - and shows an expression of satisfaction with the people who have assisted you on your tour. Although it may not be customary to you, it is of considerable significance to the people who will take care of you during your travels.
SPENDING MONEY
Every traveller is different and therefore spending money requirements will vary. Some travellers may drink more than others while other travellers like to purchase more souvenirs than most. Please consider your own spending habits when it comes to allowing for drinks, shopping and tipping. Please also remember the following specific recommendations when planning your trip.
WHAT TO TAKE
We recommend the use of a duffel bag or backpack. A daypack is also useful. Luggage storage space is limited to under bed drawers, no hard suitcases are permitted.
